Privacy Policy and Consumer Health Data Notice

How InstaTuck handles privacy: tools run in your browser, tracker data stays on your device, analytics without health values, and our consumer health data notice.

Key takeaways

  • InstaTuck calculators and Find My Options run in your browser; inputs are not sent, stored or added to the web address.[4]
  • The weight tracker stores entries only in your browser on your device; you can export or clear them at any time.[4]
  • Washington's My Health My Data Act applies most requirements from March 31, 2024 and gives consumers rights to access and delete their health data.[1]
  • We do not sell personal information, do not send health values to analytics and place no ad pixels on tools or medical pages.[2]

In short: InstaTuck’s calculators and Find My Options questionnaire run entirely in your browser: what you type is not sent to us, saved on our servers or added to the web address. The weight tracker keeps your entries only on your own device. We measure site traffic without collecting health values, we do not sell personal information, and this page includes our Consumer Health Data Notice for Washington, Nevada and other states that require one.

Our tools run in your browser

Our calculators and tools, including the BMI calculator, the calorie calculator and the GLP-1 cost comparison, do their math on your device. Height, weight, age, measurements and other numbers you enter stay on the page. They are not sent to InstaTuck, not stored on our servers and not put into the page address, so they do not end up in links, browser history or analytics reports. When you close or reload the page, the entries are gone. The only thing a tool may remember in your browser is a convenience setting, such as whether you prefer pounds or kilograms.

The weight tracker keeps data on your device

The weight tracker saves your entries in your browser’s local storage, on your own phone or computer. We cannot see them, and they do not sync to other devices. You can export a CSV file to keep a copy, and you can delete everything with the tracker’s clear button or by clearing your browser’s site data. Anyone with access to your device and browser could see the entries, so use a private device if that matters to you.

Find My Options does not store your answers

Find My Options matches your answers to categories of approaches using rules that load with the page. Your goal, preferences, safety answers and optional height and weight never leave the page, are not saved and are not added to the address. If we measure how the questionnaire is used, we count only that it was started or finished and which result category was clicked, never your answers, height or weight.

Information we do collect

  • Messages you send us. When you use our contact form, we receive your name, email address, the topic and your message, and use them only to reply and to handle your request. Please do not include health details.
  • Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are read and how people move around the site: pages viewed, approximate location (country or region), device and browser type, and how you arrived. We do not send tool inputs, questionnaire answers, weights, measurements or other health values to analytics.
  • Affiliate link clicks. Links that start with /go/ count one click per offer per day. We do not record your IP address or any personal details with that count.
  • Server and security logs. Like any website, our hosting and security services process technical data such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested, to deliver pages, block abuse and keep the site secure. These logs are kept for a short time.

We do not place advertising pixels on our tools, Find My Options or medical pages, and we do not use your activity to target ads.

Cookies and similar technologies

We use a small number of cookies and browser storage items: analytics cookies set by Google Analytics, settings stored by our tools (such as units), and the weight tracker’s local storage described above. When you follow an affiliate link to another site, such as Amazon or a program’s website, that site may set its own cookies to credit us with a referral. Their privacy policies apply on their sites. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the tools still work without them.

We plan to add an optional request a consultation form. If you use it, we will collect only what is needed to put you in touch (country, state, city, the treatment you are interested in, your contact details and how you prefer to be contacted), we will name the providers who will receive it, and we will ask for your consent to each one separately. Questionnaire answers are never attached. Newsletter consent, if you choose to sign up for our newsletter, will always be separate, and boxes will never be pre-ticked.

Consumer Health Data Notice

Some states protect “consumer health data”, which can include information about a person’s physical or mental health, or inferences about it, even when it is collected by a website rather than a doctor. Washington’s My Health My Data Act applies most of its requirements from March 31, 2024 for larger businesses, and Nevada’s consumer health data law took effect on the same date. InstaTuck is not a health care provider or health plan, so these state laws and the FTC’s Health Breach Notification Rule, rather than HIPAA, are the rules that matter for a site like ours. Here is how we handle consumer health data:

  • What we collect. Our tools and Find My Options are built so that we do not collect consumer health data: the numbers and answers stay in your browser. Consumer health data could reach us only if you choose to put it in a contact message, or in the future consultation request form, which asks for the treatment you are interested in.
  • Why we use it. Only to answer your message or, with your consent, to pass a consultation request to the providers you choose.
  • Who we share it with. Service providers that host our website and email, under contract and only to run those services; and, for consultation requests, the specific providers you consent to. We do not share consumer health data with advertisers or analytics services.
  • No sale. We do not sell consumer health data or any other personal information.
  • No geofencing. We do not use location tracking around health care facilities.
  • Your rights. You can ask whether we hold consumer health data about you, get a copy, ask us to delete it, and withdraw any consent you gave. Washington’s law asks businesses to respond within 45 days. We will not treat you differently for using these rights.

To make a request, use our contact form and choose “Privacy request”. We may need to confirm your email address before acting on it. If we decline a request, we will tell you why and how to appeal.

Your other privacy choices

Wherever you live, you can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, and opt out of analytics by blocking cookies or using a browser setting or extension that blocks analytics. We honor these requests whether or not a law in your state requires it.

How long we keep information, and how we protect it

We keep contact messages only as long as needed to answer and follow up, then delete them. Analytics data is kept for a limited period set in our analytics settings. We use HTTPS on every page, limit who can access our systems, and keep software up to date. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach ever affected personal information, we would notify the people affected and the authorities as the law requires.

Children

InstaTuck is written for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Teens with questions about weight should talk with a parent and a pediatrician; Find My Options shows teen-appropriate resources instead of treatment categories when someone says they are under 18.

Changes and contact

If we change how we handle personal information, we will update this page and its date, and for important changes we will add a notice on the site. Questions about privacy go through our contact page. Learn more about how we work on our About page and in our editorial standards.

Questions to ask a professional

  • Before entering health details in any app or website: where is this stored, and who can see it?
  • Is this app or service covered by HIPAA, or by state consumer health data laws instead?
  • Does this service share my information with advertisers or sell it?
  • How do I get a copy of my data, or have it deleted?

Frequently asked questions

Does InstaTuck see the weight I enter in a calculator?

No. The calculators do their math in your browser. What you type is not sent to us, stored on our servers or added to the page address.

Where is my weight tracker data stored?

In your browser's local storage on your own device. We cannot see it and it does not sync. Export a CSV to keep a copy; use the clear button or clear site data to delete it.

Do you sell my data?

No. We do not sell consumer health data or any other personal information, and we do not share health information with advertisers or analytics services.

What is a consumer health data notice?

Some states, including Washington and Nevada, require websites that may collect information about a person's health to explain what they collect, why, who receives it and how to exercise your rights. This page is that notice for InstaTuck.

How do I ask you to delete my information?

Use the contact form and choose "Privacy request". We may confirm your email address first. Washington's law asks for a response within 45 days, and we aim to answer sooner.
