Checked on October 6, 2026: buying directly from Novo Nordisk’s NovoCare Pharmacy without insurance costs $349 a month for the regular pens ($199 a month for the first two fills of the two starting strengths for new patients), $399 for the Wegovy HD pen and $149 to $299 for the pills. With commercial insurance that covers Wegovy, the savings offer can bring the cost down to as little as $25 a month. Medicare’s temporary GLP-1 Bridge has a $50 copay for people who meet its criteria.
Prices for weight-loss medicines change often, so every number on this page carries the date we checked it on the manufacturer’s or the government’s own website. This page is about cost only. For what Wegovy is, who it is labeled for and its side effects, see the medication page; for the tablet, see the Wegovy pill. Nothing here is advice about whether Wegovy is right for you.

Novo Nordisk announced in February 2026 that the list price of Wegovy injection 2.4 mg and Wegovy tablets 25 mg will drop to $675 a month from January 1, 2027. The company said the change does not affect its self-pay prices. A lower list price can matter if you pay a coinsurance percentage or are still in your deductible, because those amounts are often calculated from the list price.
What affects what you pay
- Form and strength. Self-pay prices differ by strength for both the pens and the pills, so the cost can change as a prescriber adjusts the dose over the first months.
- Where the prescription is filled. The self-pay prices above are for NovoCare Pharmacy, Novo Nordisk’s own online pharmacy, with free shipping. A retail pharmacy charges its own cash price.
- Insurance or not. NovoCare notes that self-pay fills are processed outside insurance, so they do not count toward your deductible or out-of-pocket maximum.
- Your plan’s rules. Many plans that cover weight-management medicines require prior authorization, set their own criteria and may cover one brand but not another.
- Other costs. Clinic or telehealth visit fees and lab tests are separate from the medicine itself.
The Wegovy savings offer (the “coupon”)
What most people search for as a “Wegovy coupon” is Novo Nordisk’s savings offer. According to NovoCare, people with commercial insurance that covers Wegovy may pay as little as $25 a month, with a maximum savings of $100 a month. Government beneficiaries are excluded, which means people with Medicare, Medicaid, TRICARE or other federal or state coverage cannot use it. Eligibility rules apply, and the company says it can change or end the program at any time; the full terms are on the manufacturer’s site. If your plan does not cover Wegovy at all, the savings offer does not help, and the self-pay route is the manufacturer’s main option.
Be careful with websites offering “Wegovy coupons” for much lower prices or for products that are not Wegovy. Compounded or “research” semaglutide is not Wegovy and is not FDA approved; our guide to compounded GLP-1s explains what the FDA has said about these products.
Buying from the manufacturer’s pharmacy
NovoCare Pharmacy fills Wegovy prescriptions at the self-pay prices in the table and ships them free of charge. You still need a valid prescription from a licensed clinician, and the pharmacy does not use your insurance for these fills. For people without coverage, the self-pay price is usually far below the list price; for people whose plan covers Wegovy, the savings offer through insurance usually costs less. Our GLP-1 cost comparison tool puts the dated self-pay prices of the approved GLP-1 medicines side by side.
Insurance coverage
The NIH notes that some, but not all, insurance plans cover medicines that treat overweight and obesity, and suggests contacting your plan to find out. When a plan covers Wegovy, it often asks the prescriber for prior authorization: documentation that you meet the plan’s criteria, sometimes including your BMI and other conditions. Wegovy also has approved uses beyond weight management, including reducing the risk of heart attack and stroke in adults with heart disease and overweight or obesity, and plans may treat these uses differently. Our GLP-1 insurance coverage guide explains prior authorization and appeals, and the insurance hub covers employer plans in general.
Medicare and the GLP-1 Bridge
From July 1, 2026 to December 31, 2027, CMS runs a temporary Medicare GLP-1 Bridge for weight management. It includes Wegovy (injection and tablets), Zepbound KwikPen and Foundayo, with a $50 copay. The prescriber must request prior authorization and attest that the person meets the clinical criteria, which CMS lists as a BMI of 35 or more when therapy starts, or 30 or more with heart failure, uncontrolled high blood pressure or chronic kidney disease stage 3a or higher, or 27 or more with prediabetes, a prior heart attack or stroke, or symptomatic peripheral artery disease (checked on October 6, 2026). People with type 2 diabetes, moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea or MASH are not part of the Bridge: CMS says they should get their GLP-1 medicine through their regular Part D plan.
Medicare rules are changing quickly. Before relying on any of this, check with your Part D plan or Medicare directly; the Medicare section of our insurance hub keeps the dated details.
Ways to lower the cost, and what to avoid
- Ask your plan first. Find out whether Wegovy is on the formulary, what prior authorization needs and what your share would be.
- Compare the savings offer with self-pay. With commercial coverage, the savings offer is often the lowest price; without coverage, compare NovoCare Pharmacy with your local pharmacy’s cash price.
- Ask about the pill. The lower pill strengths have a lower self-pay price than the pens. Whether the pill suits you is a medical question for your prescriber.
- Use HSA or FSA funds where allowed. Our costs hub explains the general IRS rules; confirm with your plan administrator.
- Avoid unapproved sellers. The FDA warns about counterfeit semaglutide in the U.S. supply chain and about products sold as “for research use.” Buy only with a prescription from a state-licensed pharmacy.
Cost is one of several things people weigh when comparing medicines. For the alternatives, see Zepbound cost, Wegovy vs Zepbound and our weight-loss medications hub. If you stop because of cost, plan it with your prescriber: our guide to life after a GLP-1 covers what helps keep weight off.
