Key takeaways

  • On March 9, 2026 Hims agreed to offer Novo Nordisk's Wegovy and Ozempic and to stop advertising compounded GLP-1s; Novo dismissed its lawsuit without prejudice.[2]
  • Hims' August 2026 quarterly report says it still offers compounded GLP-1s "on a limited scale" alongside branded drugs.[3]
  • The Weight Loss Membership was $39 the first month, then $149 a month, with medication from $149 a month extra (captured 2026-10-01).[1]
  • The FDA named Hims and Hers on February 6, 2026 when it announced steps against mass-marketed non-approved compounded GLP-1s.[4]

In short: Hims and Hers (Hims & Hers Health, Inc.) is a telehealth company whose Weight Loss program connects members with licensed providers online who may prescribe GLP-1 medications. Since March 2026, after a dispute with Novo Nordisk, it offers FDA-approved brands such as Wegovy, Zepbound and Foundayo, and it says it keeps compounded GLP-1s only “on a limited scale” for patients whose needs approved drugs cannot meet. The Weight Loss Membership was $39 for the first month and then $149 a month, with medication from $149 a month on top (company page as captured on 2026-10-01).

This page is information only: InstaTuck does not sell Hims or Hers products and there are no affiliate links. Prescription weight-loss medicine is a medical decision. Research it, talk with a licensed doctor, and get evaluated, ideally with someone who knows your full history, before you start anything.

Hims and Hers Weight Loss at a glance

What Hims and Hers Weight Loss is

Hims and Hers is a publicly traded U.S. telehealth company offering access to treatment for conditions including sexual health, hair loss, hormone health, weight loss, dermatology and mental health. Weight loss is sold as “Weight Loss by Hims” on hims.com and through the company’s Hers brand at forhers.com. The company describes it as a program that includes nutrition support, technology tools and medications prescribed when a provider decides they are medically appropriate. It is not available in all 50 states, and a prescription is required.

Approved vs compounded: what changed in 2026

Until 2026, Hims heavily promoted compounded GLP-1s, which are made by pharmacies and are not FDA approved; both the FDA and Novo Nordisk singled out its mass marketing of these products. Early 2026 brought a sharp change. These are the dated facts, each from the source named:

Hims and GLP-1s in 2026: the timeline

  1. Early FebruaryHims launches a "Compounded GLP-1 Pill" and discontinues it two days later, according to Novo Nordisk.
  2. February 6The FDA announces it intends to restrict GLP-1 ingredients for non-approved compounded drugs mass-marketed by companies, naming Hims and Hers, and to act against misleading advertising.
  3. February 9Novo Nordisk sues Hims for patent infringement over compounded semaglutide and asks the court for a permanent ban.
  4. March 9Hims announces a deal to offer Novo's Ozempic and Wegovy, says it will no longer advertise compounded GLP-1s, and Novo dismisses its lawsuit without prejudice.
  5. August 10Hims' quarterly report says it offers branded GLP-1s and compounded GLP-1s "on a limited scale".

Under the March 2026 agreement, Hims said compounded GLP-1s would remain available only for patients whose clinical needs “cannot be met using the increasingly varied set of commercially available FDA-approved GLP-1s”. The FDA has said that companies may not claim compounded products are generic versions of, or the same as, approved drugs, or that they are clinically proven. Novo Nordisk’s February complaint made serious allegations about compounded products sold through Hims; those were claims in a lawsuit that was later dismissed, not court findings. Hims also recorded $38.1 million in restructuring charges in the first half of 2026 linked to the shift in its U.S. weight-loss business.

What this means for you: if you join, ask exactly which product you would get, whether it is an FDA-approved brand, and, if a compounded product is suggested, why an approved one would not work for you. Our guide to compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide explains how compounding works and what the FDA says.

Pharmacies that are not outsourcing facilities do not have to report to the FDA, so these are likely undercounts. Reports do not prove a product caused the event.

The page captured on 2026-10-01 listed these options, each “membership required” and prescribed only if a provider decides it is appropriate. It did not list any compounded products, in line with the March 2026 agreement.

  • FDA approved for weight management: Wegovy (pen) and the Wegovy pill, Zepbound (vial and KwikPen) and Foundayo.
  • FDA approved for type 2 diabetes: Ozempic (injection and pill) and Mounjaro. Hims states these are available only to patients who meet clinical eligibility criteria. Using them for weight alone would be off-label.
  • “Microdosing” plan for the Wegovy pill: low-dose plans are not one of the dosing schedules in the FDA label, which steps up to a maintenance dose. Your dose should be set and changed only with your prescriber.

The Hims page cites the OASIS 4 trial of the Wegovy pill: adults with overweight or obesity lost 13.6% of body weight on average with oral semaglutide 25 mg (vs 2.2% on placebo), alongside diet and exercise. All these medicines have the same class warnings, including a boxed warning about thyroid C-cell tumors in rodents, and must not be used by people with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or MEN 2. The most common side effects are digestive. Read our GLP-1 side effects guide before your visit.

How it works and what the membership includes

You complete an online intake, and a licensed provider reviews it and decides whether to prescribe. If you already take a GLP-1, Hims says its providers review your history and current treatment, and care can often continue without starting over. The membership, according to the page, includes:

  • Access to GLP-1 medications if eligible and a personalized treatment plan.
  • 24/7 messaging with licensed providers and a Care Team, dose adjustments and side-effect support.
  • Nutrition and exercise guidance, in-app weight tracking and a peer community.
  • A smart scale at no extra cost if you opt in (the company gives it a $55 value), and partner discounts such as HelloFresh, MyFitnessPal and Ladder.

An online intake is not a physical exam. Give a complete list of medicines and conditions, ask how to reach someone urgently about side effects, and keep your own doctor informed. Ask what lab tests, if any, will be ordered before and during treatment. Protein and strength training help protect muscle while you lose weight; see muscle loss on GLP-1s.

What it costs (captured 2026-10-01)

Hims’ fine print says medication prices “include medication only, if prescribed”, and that an active Weight Loss Membership is required: $39 for the first month, auto-renewing at $149 a month. The membership is billed separately, does not include or guarantee a prescription, and medication is not available without it. Hims does not require insurance; the medication fee is FSA and HSA eligible, but the membership fee is not, according to its FAQ.

For comparison, the manufacturers’ own self-pay prices on 2026-10-06 started at $149 a month for the lowest-dose Wegovy and Foundayo pills, $349 for most Wegovy pen doses (with a $199 introductory price for the first two fills of the lowest doses through December 31, 2026) and $299 to $449 for the Zepbound KwikPen. Buying directly from the manufacturer with a prescription from your own clinician avoids a membership fee. See Wegovy cost, Zepbound cost and the GLP-1 cost comparison tool. If you have Medicare, ask about the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge (July 2026 to December 2027, $50 copay for eligible people).

Cancellation

The membership auto-renews monthly. We could not read Hims’ terms and conditions on 2026-10-06 because the site blocks automated access, so ask before paying: how to cancel, when cancellation takes effect, whether medication already ordered or shipped is refundable, and whether the smart scale must be returned. Prescription medicines generally cannot be returned once dispensed.

Manufacturers now sell Wegovy, Zepbound and Foundayo directly to cash-paying patients with a valid prescription from any licensed clinician. So the real question is what the membership adds for you: speed, convenience, messaging and delivery. If you already have a primary care doctor you trust, ask them first; they know your history and can order labs.

Before your Hims visit: a short checklist

  • Write down your weight, height, any recent blood pressure reading and recent lab results.
  • List every medicine and supplement, especially insulin, sulfonylureas, blood pressure medicines and oral birth control (the Zepbound label advises a non-oral or backup method for 4 weeks after starting and after each dose increase).
  • Note any history of pancreatitis, gallbladder or kidney disease, diabetic eye disease, depression or eating disorders, and any family history of thyroid cancer.
  • Ask: Which exact product will I get, and is it FDA approved? Which pharmacy fills it? What will I pay in month two and month six? How do I cancel?
  • Ask for a copy of your visit notes and prescriptions to share with your own doctor.

Results claims and testimonials

Hims’ page features member stories (for example, 33 pounds lost in 7 months) and states that customers may have been compensated, results have not been independently verified and individual results will vary. Weight-loss results you can rely on come from the medicines’ controlled trials, shown above. The company’s general health-benefit statements note that some are based on older medications, lifestyle programs and surgery rather than the newer GLP-1 drugs.

Who it may suit, and who should check first

Hims or Hers may suit adults who, after talking with a clinician, want an FDA-approved GLP-1 through an app with messaging support, and who are comfortable paying a monthly membership on top of medication. It is less suited to people who want to use insurance (Hims says insurance is not required and describes no insurance process), need in-person care, or prefer a program centered on food and behavior. Anyone who is pregnant or planning a pregnancy, has a history of pancreatitis, medullary thyroid cancer or MEN 2, kidney disease or diabetic eye disease, or takes insulin or sulfonylureas should discuss risks with their own doctor first.

Frequently asked questions

Does Hims still sell compounded semaglutide?

Hims stopped advertising compounded GLP-1s in March 2026 and says it offers them only on a limited scale for patients whose needs FDA-approved drugs cannot meet (10-Q, August 2026). Its weight-loss page lists brand products.

Does Hims offer Wegovy and Zepbound?

Yes. On 2026-10-01 the page listed the Wegovy pill and pen, Zepbound vial and KwikPen, Foundayo, Ozempic and Mounjaro, each prescribed only if a provider decides it is appropriate.

How much does Hims weight loss cost?

The membership was $39 for the first month, then $149 a month, plus medication from $149 a month (Wegovy pill or Foundayo), $199 (Wegovy pen) or $299 (Zepbound), as captured on 2026-10-01.

Is the Hims membership required?

Yes. Hims says medication is not available without an active Weight Loss Membership, and the membership does not guarantee a prescription.

Can I use insurance or HSA with Hims?

Insurance is not required. Hims says the medication fee is FSA/HSA eligible but the membership fee is not.

Why did Novo Nordisk sue Hims?

Novo filed a patent infringement suit on February 9, 2026 over compounded semaglutide sold through Hims. It dismissed the case without prejudice on March 9, 2026 when the companies reached an agreement.

Is Hims the same as Hers?

They are two brands of the same company, Hims & Hers Health, Inc.; Hers is at forhers.com.

Is GLP-1 microdosing safe?

Low-dose plans are not one of the dosing schedules in the FDA labels. Whether a lower dose suits you is a decision for you and your prescriber, who should monitor side effects and results.
