In short: Noom is an app-based program that teaches eating and lifestyle habits through short daily psychology lessons, food logging and coaching. Its medical tier, Noom Med, connects members with licensed clinicians online who may prescribe brand-name medications such as Wegovy or Zepbound, or compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide, which are not FDA approved. Noom Weight costs from $17.50 to $70 a month depending on the plan length, and Noom Med programs cost more, before medication (all prices from Noom’s own pages, checked 2026-10-06).

InstaTuck does not sell Noom and this page has no affiliate links. It is consumer education only. Before you start any program or prescription medicine, research your options, talk with a licensed doctor and get a proper evaluation, ideally with someone who knows your full health history.

Noom at a glance

What Noom is

Noom is best known for Noom Weight, a program that focuses on why we eat the way we do. Instead of a fixed menu, you get daily lessons, food and exercise logging, weight tracking, recipes and access to coaches and a community. Noom now also runs Noom Med, a telehealth service that adds clinicians and prescription medications, and separate programs for menopause and for employers and health plans.

How Noom Weight works

Every day starts with 5 to 15 minutes of short lessons. Noom says they draw on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and stress-management theory, and that they cover sleep, stress and self-care as well as food. You log meals and exercise in the app, and you can also track weight, water, blood glucose and blood pressure, and use recipes and weekly meal planning. The aim is to learn your own triggers, such as eating in front of the TV or after a stressful meeting, and build habits that last after the subscription ends.

Noom’s lessons are self-guided, and coaches are there for encouragement and accountability rather than medical care. Noom Weight coaches are not your doctor. If you have a health condition, or a history of disordered eating, check with your own clinician first: food logging and calorie targets are not right for everyone. Our guide to emotional eating lists where to find support.

What Noom Weight costs (checked 2026-10-06)

Noom publishes its Noom Weight prices in a pricing article that was last updated on June 3, 2026. All plans are billed up front and auto-renew, and Noom says you can cancel at any time. Before the paid plan begins, there is a 7- or 14-day trial for which you choose a price (examples given are $0.50, $3, $10 or $18). After the trial, the plan you selected is charged automatically.

Noom says most people start with the 4-month plan ($169). A longer plan lowers the monthly equivalent but means paying for months you may not use, so think about how long you realistically expect to use the app.

Noom Med: how the medical tier works

Noom Med pairs prescription medications with the Noom app. According to Noom, you complete an online health assessment, a licensed clinician reviews it and prescribes online if clinically appropriate, and medication is either coordinated through your pharmacy or shipped to you. Noom describes its care as largely asynchronous (by chat and messages), with video visits available in some programs. Its intake, as Noom describes it, includes identity verification, a comprehensive medical intake and a full-body photo before treatment.

Noom Med, as Noom describes it

  1. Health assessmentAn online intake survey about your health history and goals.
  2. Clinician reviewA licensed clinician evaluates your answers and prescribes online if clinically appropriate.
  3. MedicationShipped to you or coordinated through your pharmacy, depending on the medicine and on insurance or cash pay.
  4. Ongoing careClinician messaging, refills when appropriate, and the Noom GLP-1 Companion app.

Asynchronous care can be convenient, but it means no one examines you in person. Be thorough and honest on every form, list all your medicines and supplements, and share your results with your own primary care doctor. If a question in the intake does not fit your situation, ask for a video visit.

Which medications Noom Med may prescribe

Noom says it prescribes “generic, compounded, and brand name medications”. The options listed on its Noom Med page on 2026-10-06 fall into three groups:

  • FDA-approved for weight management: Wegovy (injection), the Wegovy pill, Zepbound, Foundayo. Noom also lists generic liraglutide; generic versions exist both of Saxenda (approved for weight) and of Victoza (approved for type 2 diabetes), so ask which one you would receive.
  • FDA-approved for type 2 diabetes, not for weight: Ozempic and Mounjaro, plus metformin, which Noom itself notes is not FDA approved for weight loss. Using these for weight alone is off-label.
  • Compounded, not FDA approved: “Noom GLP-1Rx” and “Noom Microdose GLP-1Rx” programs that use compounded semaglutide or tirzepatide. Noom’s own fine print says compounded semaglutide in these programs “has not been reviewed by the FDA for safety, efficacy, or quality”.

Noom says its pharmacy partners are state-regulated, follow U.S. Pharmacopeia standards, test every batch through a third party, and that members of its GLP-1Rx programs can ask for a certificate of analysis (a pharmacy document stating that the active ingredient met requirements). Those are reasonable questions to ask any compounding pharmacy, but they do not make a compounded drug FDA approved, and a certificate of analysis is not the same as an FDA review.

“Microdosing” GLP-1s: what to know

Noom promotes “microdose” GLP-1 plans that keep people on low doses. The FDA labels for Wegovy and Zepbound describe set schedules that start low and increase every four weeks to a maintenance dose; “microdosing” is not one of the labeled schedules, and the labeled trial results (such as 14.9% average weight loss with Wegovy 2.4 mg in STEP 1) come from the full maintenance doses. Noom cites its own member data and an outside study for its low-dose results. A lower dose may mean fewer side effects for some people and less weight loss for others. Any dose plan, low or high, should be set with your prescriber and never changed on your own.

What Noom Med costs (checked 2026-10-06)

Noom Med pricing depends on the program and on whether you use insurance. These are the figures Noom published:

  • Microdose GLP-1Rx (compounded): an initial 3-week subscription plus 4 weeks of medication from $79 plus tax, then a 12-week subscription billed monthly. The program page listed $179 a month; Noom’s pricing article said $199 a month for new accounts from March 31, 2026. Ask which price applies to you.
  • Brand-name medications: Noom Med “starting at $39” plus the medication’s own cost, which depends on insurance. Manufacturer self-pay prices on 2026-10-06 started at $149 a month for the lowest-dose Wegovy and Foundayo pills and $299 for the lowest-dose Zepbound KwikPen.
  • With Medicare (GLP-1 Bridge): $39 to get started, a $50 copay per fill for Wegovy, Zepbound or Foundayo if you qualify, plus the Noom Med plan, shown as $387 billed every 12 weeks ($129 a month). Another line on the same page said $99 a month, so confirm the current figure. Noom states that the plan fee is not covered by Medicare and that the $50 copay does not count toward your Part D deductible or out-of-pocket maximum.

What the research shows

Independent, randomized evidence for Noom Weight is thinner than for WeightWatchers. The best-known published study (Scientific Reports, 2016) looked back at 35,921 people who used the Noom Coach app between 2012 and 2014: 77.9% reported a drop in body weight while using it, and people who logged dinners and weighed themselves more often did better. That was an observational study of self-reported data with no comparison group, so it cannot show how much of the result came from the app. A 600-person randomized trial of the Noom Healthy Weight program (with coaching) against a digital control was registered as NCT04797169, and its protocol was published in 2022; we could not find its main weight-loss results published as of 2026-10-06.

For Noom Med, the company’s figures (for example, that members lose 37% or 48% more weight than people taking a GLP-1 without Noom) come from its own retrospective analyses of members, which Noom notes do not prove cause and effect. Look at these as marketing claims, not trial results. The general principle behind them, that medication works best together with diet, activity and behavior support, matches the FDA labels, which approve these drugs alongside a reduced-calorie diet and more physical activity.

Cancellation and the 2022 settlement

Noom says all plans can be canceled at any time, but they auto-renew until you do, and the trial converts into a paid plan automatically. In 2022 Noom settled a class action brought by former users who said its “risk-free” trials did not clearly disclose automatic renewals and were hard to cancel. The $62 million settlement ($56 million in cash and $6 million in subscription credits) received final court approval in July 2022, and Noom agreed to clearer disclosures and easier online cancellation for two years. Before signing up, note the date the trial ends, check how to cancel in the app, and keep the confirmation email.

Who it may suit, and who should check first

Noom Weight may suit adults who like learning about psychology, are comfortable with daily app use, and want a lower-cost option without prescribed food. Noom Med may suit people who, after talking with a clinician, want a GLP-1 together with app-based habit support, and who prefer messaging to video visits. It may be less suitable for people who want face-to-face care, have several medical conditions, are pregnant or planning a pregnancy, have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or MEN 2 (a contraindication on Wegovy and Zepbound labels), or prefer to use only FDA-approved products. If you choose Noom Med, you can ask for a brand-name, FDA-approved option.
